From the peaks you can appreciate the beauty of the entire island. From the East side you really feel the remoteness and can enjoy the silence.
I am always drawn to the hills, gun or rod in hand or not, whatever I choose, that is where I will navigate to.
My perfect day is a day fishing one of the harder to reach hill lochs, Snigiscleit.
Taking in the dramatic views from the surrounding hills on the way. The setting is so peaceful out there and the only sounds are birds, the odd sheep in the distance and the splash of trout.
My first shooting party in Scotland took place in Uist and I was amazed by the nature and the diversity of this Island. I was seduced by the biodiversity.
Each season brings us a huge diversity in our work, which is one of the things I like most about my role as a gamekeeper.
My favourite spot on the estate would have to be on the very top of the hill Corradale, in-between Hecla and Ben Mhor.
On a clear day you can see the Isle of Skye to the east and then nothing but the Atlantic ocean as you look to the west. What’s not to love.
I think the fact that no matter where you go in the world, nothing compares to South Uist and there is nowhere else like it.
The potential the Estate has is endless. To be born and bred in South Uist and working for the community company is something I am so proud of.
I came up to Grogarry in January 1970.
My husband, Willie, was the Farm Manager and I got the job in the Lodge as Housekeeper/Book Person part time and then full time in January 1971.
