Booking South Uist Fishing
Estate loch bookings, allocation of boats and requests for ghillies are managed by Sheena at the Storas Uibhist office. Fishery manager John Steele co-ordinates the fishing of the machair lochs; lochs are allocated on a rota basis to give anglers a chance to sample the variety of lochs in the system.
It is against the law to fish for migratory fish (sea trout and salmon) on a Sunday in Scotland and brown trout fishing has traditionally been limited to less public areas on a Sunday.
The open seasons are as follows:
BROWN TROUT : 15th march – 30th september
SEA TROUT & SALMON : 1st July – 31st October
Prices are based on two rods per boat per day.
Additional anglers will be charged at half the boat rate.
All Season £55
SALMON & SEA TROUT
1st JULY – 31ST JULY £65
1ST August – 30th SEPTEMBER £85
1st OCTOBER – 31st OCTOBER £65
1st june – 30th september £25
SALMON & SEA TROUT
1st August – 30th SEPTEMBEr £55
1st OCTOBER – 31st OCTOBER £25
Ghillies can be arranged by the Estate and are primarily available for brown trout and salmon/sea trout lochs, however there is a limited availability for the remote hill lochs.
We do recommend the use of a ghillie whilst fishing the South Uist lochs due to the strong winds that blow regularly. A ghillie will master your boat and provide better control of drifts. Windy weather does however yield best fishing results.
Some lochs have larger areas of weed, this is important for feeding, therefore, these lochs are more productive when fished with a ghillie as they use their knowledge and experience to navigate around these weeded areas to your advantage.
Please note – ghillies are paid direct and can be an invaluable asset to you though sharing advice and experience of fishing South Uist lochs
SIZE & BAG LIMITS
Our fishing is all wild trout and salmon, and as such must be preserved for the future generations.
Whilst we do not have specific bag limits, we are asking anglers for their co-operation to promote catch and release as much as possible, especially on our machair lochs and sea trout systems.
We urge anglers to continue to do this and preserve our wild stocks to guarantee enjoyment for all our visiting anglers for many years to come.
All undersized fish must be carefully returned
