catch returns

Catch returns are invaluable to our work here at South Uist Estates, supporting us to monitor the health of fish stocks. It is also vital in helping us report more accurately on weights.

It is essential that all anglers complete a catch return, even if it is nil. Catch returns should be completed as accurately as possible and submitted at your earliest convenience.

Wild brown trout and sea trout are a unique asset and it is worth taking considerable effort to enhance and protect the fishing so it will continue to flourish for future generations.

BROWN TROUT

2021 produced a record year for South Uist Brown Trout, with the highest catch figures since 1962.

2022 catch returns also produced some sizeable brown trout, so whilst not record breaking in numbers it proved to be another good year on the water across the Estate.

SALMON &

SEA TROUT

2021 saw Sea Trout numbers increase back to levels witnessed throughout much of the 90’s. Fish size was also noteably increased.

Salmon numbers for 2022 were up on the previous year, however sizes were on par.
